Material Memory
Concept
Objects carry the traces of their making. The mark of a hand, the evidence of a tool, the residue of process. This exhibition brought together seven makers whose work privileges these traces—who resist the impulse to erase the history of making in favor of seamless finish.
The works spanned ceramics, metalwork, textiles, and glass. What united them was an ethic: that the object's biography matters. That imperfection is not failure but information. That the viewer deserves to see how something came to be.
The exhibition was deliberately temporary—three weeks in an empty storefront. Objects were displayed on simple plinths, with only the maker's name and material noted. No wall text. The work spoke for itself.
